How Tweets Can Hurt You - Protect Your Reputation

Don't be like the Fed Ex PR rep who got canned for his negative comments about Fed Ex's home state. Twitter marketing needs to be strategic and stop talking about what you had for breakfast!

  • Search for target markets (fellow tweeters) that tie in with your niche/industry. Why do you want to follow health nuts if you run a construction company? That doesn't make sense. Target your specific industry and people who would need your services and products.
  • Stop tweeting about your cousin's sister's baby. Save that for your personal Twitter account. Business is business and keep your tweets professional and stick to the point.
  • Don't sound like a spammer - you'll get instantly banned!
  • Give away a freebie or run a contest and ALWAYS link back to your company websites and blogs!
  • Re-tweet posts that hit your message and that would interest your followers.
  • Use humor sparingly (if it fits your followers, then go for it but don't use it all the time)
  • Don't add JUST anyone - be picky about who you allow to follow you
Remember don't post anything on your Twitter that you don't want your spouse or mother to read!
